The adventure to finding yourself is a great road, and I used to think that I wanted to teach the art of public speaking. After all, public speaking is :Mans Biggest Fear.

Then I realized public speaking is actually NOT mans biggest fear. In fact, having a fear of public speaking is the last stop on the train, and you don’t want to get off the train, so you say, “No, I’m too scared of public speaking.”

Now ten thousand trainers respond, “I will help you overcome your fear of public speaking.” And how do they do that?

The trainers bring you together with a bunch of other people who are afraid of public speaking, and they make you public speak.

Thats like taking a person who is frightful to death of spiders, and making them hold a spider!

But trainers will tell you different. They will tell you that you learn the art of speaking in a controlled environment. That you will learn how to identify your message and bring it to the world.

Whatever the case, it is easy to open up your heart to a bunch of people with the same fear, because they are there for the same reason. Then you tell yourself you have overcome their fear of public speaking. Then you stop speaking for an extended amount of time, and even though you may not admit it. You still fear public speaking.

Just like the saying goes—– there’s no such thing as a halfway crook.

Now let’s imagine backing that train up. You go back one stop. Then you back up another stop. And you keep backing that train up until you get to the very first station. This is your core, your values, and the place most people are scared to look at.

Then you do a core transformational change, and a core transformational change is instilling YOUR core values into YOUR soul. Now you find purpose and meaning. You find motivation, and you will notice how your life becomes different, because you become different, because you know exactly what you stand for. And if you go through life fully and completely true to YOUR core values, you may want to embrace public speaking as a means to share whatever message you were meant to deliver!

Check me out at my other blog… I’ve worked my way back to the core!!!

On the other hand, Fatty Mc Fatterson from work never eats the surprise birthday cake because she is somehow always preaching about “losing weight.” Just Like the day Zitty Mc-bad-skin tried to sell me on the importance of the raw food diet. Or what about the thousands of Broke Mc-I-make-no-money-son, who try to sell Multi Level marketing products.

The world of try hards is getting ridiculous. So is the world of- I am worth ridiculous amounts of money… like the other day when I received an internet marketers email that said, “What do you do?”

That’s a damn good question I thought. What does Devin Bisanz do?

Am I a writer?

Am I a speaker?

Am I a salesman, Internet marketer, or just another joke?

The email had a link to a sales video, and in video had a breakdown of 5 different options. One option was a half day, one-on-one session with this marketer. The price, 3,000 dollars. The benefits, you will come out with a product, a breakdown of your path the success, and a marketing plan.

To a person like myself that sounds great. I’ll walk away from this day a changed man; however, what is going to happen when I hit my first roadblock? Or what happens when I realize that this plan I have devised is not a representation of my deep down desires.

Ah, but this marketer has a cure for that. He is going to give me a personality test, a preliminary interview, and of course he is going to give me access to his in depth training, and discounts to all his future events.

Great, except for one problem… I will run out of money and energy long before my product gets launched. Why? Because this marketer, and no marketer holds the answers for my destiny…

I don’t play by other peoples rules, because if I did… I would be like every other consumer out there who thinks they can buy the answers to their problems.

Lets break into some bragging rights here… I quit major substance abuse without the help of any 12 step program. I lost 60 pounds without needing a personal trainer. I wrote a book without taking writing courses. I get up and do motivational speeches without knowing the ropes, and I have the healthiest of relationships… why? Because I self- motivate———– and it has taken me awhile to get anywhere, but that is only because I am scared…

But what am I scared of?

Simple,

I am scared to believe in myself. I’m scared that I will not be able to connect to the people that I want to. It is fear that holds me back from creating a blog that represents who I am, but that doesn’t bother me one bit. In fact, I am growing into what I want to become as we speak…

Listen up consumers, get your head out of the clouds. There are no shortcuts, and I haven’t met any highly successful people who haven’t travelled on the hard road at one point or another.

Life is one big hurdle. Fix one problem, face five others. Fix five problems, face twenty. If I don’t have a problem, I’ll create a problem, and with a no limits attitude, a person like myself can create a disaster. Oh wait, I have created disasters. Now I will talk about those disasters because those disasters have made me both rich and poor, and a man who has been rich, never wants to be poor. On the other hand, a man who has been poor, never wants to feel that hurt again…

Oh look at that… how clever… both of those comments say the same thing… so I guess the key is to get rich, but I am not yet ready to show you how to do that. What I will show you is how to motivate yourself…

Happy New Year! January is a big month, I’m going to Miami Florida to get certified as a motivational coach with NLP society approval…

It’s my ticket, my reward for going through tough times with my head held high. It’s a stepping stone to my dreams, because like you, I have a dream… now we define it…

Sincerely,

Devin Bisanz

Then I’ll flex…

Booya, it’s all fun and games until somebody gets punched in the face, but nobody hits a man who says obnoxious things in the most charming of ways…

Bad obnoxious—A girl I barely know on Facebook sends a Christmas letter. In her four page letter she talks about her amazing kids, blah, blah, her blowing up company, blah, blah, and her super hero husband, blah, blah. I barely skimmed the headings of this generic letter that went out to 60 others, including her parents…

Now, I’m sure this poor girl intended well in her message; I mean, she wrote about how important it felt for “her” to reconnect with “her” friends.

Shit stars I thought, this letter is so personal only she should read it!

Ha, knee slapper for me. Now lets look at another christmas letter approach…

I have a cousin who sends a christmas card to my parents every year. This year, like last year, I opened the card, “Merry Christmas uncle Ed and Aunty Eileen,” hmm I thought, I can’t believe that my cousin who works full time, has five kids under the age of 12 (playing on three different hockey teams) takes family time to hand write christmas cards. The card ends with 7 signatures, school pictures, and the words, “We can’t wait to see you guys again.”

What an adorable family inviting others into their life like that. Talk about holiday cheer.

A story like that should be an embarrassing moment for all you people who write generic “brag letters,” and send it to your mailing list…

Obnoxious people,

On Facebook a guy sends out an invite to a few of his peers. He says, “Hey guys, I’m having a little gathering at my place on December so and so. Feel free to stop by and enjoy some food and drink on me.”

A girl responds to his invite and my subconscious reads: I would attend your party but I have better things to do.

Ouch, said my subconscious mind, and I’m sure it was not the girls intention to be rude. She is simply uneducated. She is obnoxious, and besides, Facebook is the centre of obnoxious. My subconscious reads my Facebook newsfeed like this: “depressed, fake, bragging, quote by somebody else, more bragging, funny video, I love my new this, (bragging) I love my new that, (bragging) this person is amazing, (bragging) my life sucks, (bragging) and you get the picture…”

Don’t worry, I join the fun and brag on my Facebook wall as well. Why not? We live in a world where if you can do it, I can do it better, and if you win… I will act like it doesn’t bother me.

Huh? Fuck that. Losing bothers me, and I’ve lost a few times, and it bothers me. Not anymore of course, for now I am like a black panther, only I’m not black, and I’m not a Panther, doesn’t matter… I was looking in the mirror this morning and I looked good, real good…

There you have it. I sat down to spew about obnoxious people. Then I got off topic and became a bit obnoxious myself. Pardon me… the real point to my rant this holiday season is this:

The message happens in the audiences head. Its not about me, or you, it is about how our audience interprets me, or you.

Judge yourself my friends. Pay attention to how others react to what it is you say, and if you can’t make your message clear… whatever, it happens, but move forward and stop making the same old mistakes. Make new mistakes instead… and a hangover is not a mistake… Happy New Years!

Sincerely,

Devin Bisanz

I’m excited and nervous because I want my work to be original, and I’ve had some encouragement. During Blue Pencil feedback at The Surrey International Writers Conference. Jacqui Banaszynski from the University of Missouri, School of Journalism said, “Do you have more of this writing?”

“Yeah,”

“It feels like I am right inside your head,” she smiled, flipping the page, “It’s fabulous stuff. You write like a new age Hunter S. Thompson.”

“Thanks,” I grinned, “Who is Hunter S. Thompson?”

“He wrote Fear and Loathing.”

“Oh really?”

I walked out of that room with balls five times bigger than Goliath. That day I bought a book from two authors; Hunter S Thompson, and a Tim O’Brien. I read those books in a week and bought four more from the same authors…

Now just to fill you in…

One year before I spoke to Jacqui. I had a Big name author read my work. He read one page shaking his head the whole way down, “I don’t buy it,” he said, “There’s nothing good in this writing.”

I was heartbroken. I had worked on that book for a year, and the shitty thing is I knew the idiot Author was right, but I had no idea how to fix it…

So did I take a creative writing course?

Of course not, are you kidding me?? Why would I go to creative writing class to learn what everybody else learns???

You can’t teach individuality, yet I am surrounded by people who think you can…

This morning I was reading an article about a Custom Bike builder in the Okanogan. I can’t think of his name, one sec, got to grab the article…

Roger Goldammer, and he is a young guy, 43 years old, has a thousand bike building credentials yet he barely makes the radar of mainstream builders. What caught my eye was his quote, “If you bang on a piece of metal for four hours and don’t get what you want, some people give up. But you might get something good after six hours.”

I immediately transferred his quote into my career, and screw six hours, lets talk thousands of hours…

Imagine you quit your job and spent thousands of hours on a story only to have a Professor dismiss it as trash. Would you stop writing?

I’ve met many people who have. In fact, I interact with people everyday who give up when the going gets tough. Dreams put on the back burner because life gets in the way. Can you believe that??

Screw that noise. I don’t stop. I evolve, reevaluate, restructure, and continue, because I want to tell the story about the big name author who said there was nothing good in my writing…

After I sell a million copies of my book…

This is why you haven’t seen an update on my blog. I’ve been locked down writing the greatest story I ever told. And that story is a stepping stone to being the greatest person when I get old…

Dare to dream…

Sincerely,

Devin Bisanz

“Of course,” the sales guy beamed, “You own a piece of real-estate. When the market goes up, the value goes up.”

WELL,

Im sure it is possible to resell your Timeshare, but there is some bad hype. In fact; some companies want you to pay them, to take it off your hands…

Why?

I get a maintenance Bill every year, a membership bill every year, and I think I still have to pay tax on the room. To top it off, I could get a bill in the mail that reads something like, “Special Assessment, Urgent Message, A Resort in Utah Needs a New Roof,”

“Pay me NOW bitches…”

You see,

There is a community of Timeshare Owners who Love Their Timeshares. But in my situation, what seemed like a no-pressure sale, turned out to be the most pressure I could feel…

Then My Timeshare company went Bankrupt?!?

Thats right, the company went belly up, and guess what happened to my 15,000 dollars (Paid in full)????

Well, I had a choice: lose 15 grand, or pay 400 dollars to switch to the company who bought my timeshare out.

What is a man to do?!?

Naturally I paid the money…

Then I received a phone call from a nice lady, “Hello Mr. Bisanz,” she smiled through the phone, “I’m calling from Vacation International, and as a new member of our company I would like to invite you to an orientation at your home resort.”

“Cool,” I blasted, “Where is my home resort?”

“Lynden Washington.”

Right, so let’s fast forward a few weeks…

Jody Lea and myself were watching Sunday football, and enjoying a drink at the Golf course bar. We were visiting Lynden Washington, my new “Home Resort.”

Nice place, the grounds well manicured, a big ass American flag announced the parking lot- (One thing I like about Americans, they are very patriotic. You don’t see Canada flags in Canada. You see Russian flags, Italian Flags, Chinese flags, and you get the picture…)

Anyways, it was freaking chilly, we were wearing jackets at the bar when a middle aged guy approached us. He looked sharp in a snow white shirt, designer jeans, and shiny dress shoes, “Hi guys, my name is Steve,” he glowed, “Please follow me.”

Jody Lea followed him, I followed Jody Lea to monitor every movement of her swaggering buttocks. Hmmm, I thought, she’s looking fabulous, of course…

Soon we sat at a grand table and Steve let us know he wasn’t a Timeshare salesman. Steve was a Timeshare Owner who was asked to give orientations to the 3,000 Canadians who were now members of Vacation International, “I was a Real Estate Developer,” Steve boasted, “I sold my resort to the Marriott, you guys know the Marriott Hotels?”

We both nodded.

“Now I’m a slacker,” Steve joked, ”Hey you guys look pretty fit, do you two work out?”

“Yah we work out,” Jody Lea said with a tingle in her jingle.

Steve cracked a big smile, “What gym?”

“Steve Nash Fitness World,”

“Steve Nash,” Steve jumped, clapping his hands, his Rolex catching my eye, “You know what? I have a picture in front of that gym. Man you guys are different up there in Canada though, We’re all Football down here, but you like that Hockey right?”

“Yeah,” we blurted, like two sheep.

“Isn’t Steve Nash’s daughter married to that guy on the Canucks?” I asked, “Whats his name again?”

“Dan Hamhuis,” Steve blasted, and “Coincidentally,” Dan Hamhuis ALSO owns a Vacation International Timeshare. In fact Dan Hamhuis and Ryan Kesler took Steve golfing!!!

No f’ing way right??

Steve was cool…

He told us about his recent honeymoon, and how Vacation International really helped him out. Steve showed us a picture of his Dodge Viper, and made us aware that his first wife had died.

It was tough for Steve, he had to struggle as a single dad with two kids, but now he is happy again, and he loves what he does.

After a good 45 minutes of No Pressure Sales Steve was comfortable taking us in for the close, “You know what guys,” he shrugged, “Because we took 3,000 new clients, Vacation International has closed the doors to our sales office. We had to stop selling because we want availability to all our members….”

Long story short, Steve offered us a rare No Pressure Sales opportunity that was only available to 4000 of the 34,000 Vacation International Timeshare Owners.

“It’s only 4,800 dollars,” Steve smiled, “And as a bonus you will get access to a private 1-800 number. With that number you say where you want to go, when, and they will book you’re trip. I’m a VI Prestige member and they handled my entire Honeymoon.”

Well,

I wanted that 1-800 number. I wanted to hang out with Dan Hamhuis and be treated like royalty at Five Star Resorts. Screw low class, Booze fest, Mexican Riviera’s, I’m Devin Bisanz and I want five star treatment…

We were looking at the finance paper. Steve was ready with his pen when I said, “I’m not going to buy this right now Steve. Not that I don’t want to. I just don’t have the money to spend. Thanks for the pitch though.”

Steve told me that he didn’t work on commission, that he was doing it as a favour, that 3,800 of the 4,000 Prestige spots were filled, yet when I told Steve No…

I watched his ego hit the floor and stomp on itself…

It was great fun…

I smiled, Jody Lea perked her boobs, Steve comped the 50 dollars certificate promised, and we all went our separate ways…

So,

What can we take away from this experience????

If you, or someone you know is looking to buy a Timeshare. I have one for sale!!!!

*Smiley Face*

Sincerely,

Workout Motivation,

The other day Jody Lea and I were in the store and she was looking through magazines for her favourite girls. I grabbed a Mens Fitness and opened to a page that said, “Hotel workout.”

That could be practical considering I’m going to be a motivational speaker. I am going to have to travel, and I like working out at home during thinking breaks.

Boom, I buy the magazine…

The next morning I’m sitting on the can, reading my magazine when I come across an article about Robert De Niro training for his movie “Cape Fear.”

His warmup: 50 pull ups, 150 lunges

Think about that warmup: 50 pull ups and 150 lunges. How many people can do that?

I know this will go through somebodies head, “Well I could do it if I had the time.”

Not to burst the bubble; but you would have to have a pretty big reason to maintain that workout. And in Robert De Niro’s case, that reason includes a shit ton of cash.

The average guy will never follow through with such a commitment…

At the same time, don’t say you can’t do it.

Instead, keep your mouth shut…

Anyways,

Why do so many people not achieve their goals??

I mean, it IS possible. It is possible that anybody can do anything they want, and I know that everybody who buys a workout product has a moment of serenity.

The moment we make that purchase decision is a moment of Change. Excitement, fear, I can do it, I know I can, and even though I am scared. I’m ready…

The product shows up at our door. A 5 pound drop in the first week and if you’re like me; you brag about this new motivation, why not?

By the third week I hit a plateau, why?

Because I tried to incorporate old habits with new ideologies. I forgot that in order to be in better shape; I had to actually live the life of a person in better shape…

Two years ago I wanted to lose 60 pounds…

I had a couple choices:

Dish out on a personal trainer, Dr Berstien, or any one of the associations that give the support we need. But again, people spend a lot of money and never see results. I just observed a personal trainer at the gym as he sat on the weight bench watching his client do lunges.

Do you think he is doing her any favours?

Hell no, and she doesn’t know any better. She thinks a trainer is the answer, but if you don’t pick a trainer properly, or a doctor properly, you may as well flush your cash. And a proper personal trainer usually comes with a decent sticker price.

Not my style,

Ok, I’ll admit it, I spent the money elsewhere…

Solution Two:

First, I had to admit that I really wanted change. In fact I let the feeling of change build inside until I hit 60 pounds overweight. I knew I had found my bottom because I yearned change until I finally felt guilty for every second that I put it off.

It was time…

I started going for a walk every day. Didn’t lose a pound, didn’t gain one either, but after 30 days I felt a little better. After 30 days I had to walk everyday, even if it was at midnight, and nobody walks at midnight…

Going one step farther I bought a punch card to the aquatic centre. An hour of weights, half hour swimming and sauna…

Did the weight drop off?

10 pounds did, and we are talking about a six month commitment…

Then I started looking for more healthy stuff to eat, and did I cut everything out at once?

Hell no, are you crazy…

If you offer me pie, it would rude for me to turn you down… Gravy?

Put some on the Potatoes, I’m in…

So what did I do??

I became aware of foods low in sodium.

Eight months and I proved enough dedication to justify a gym pass. 49 bucks a month for the first 2 years. My walking was cut down to only a few nights but now I had a sense of guilt if I missed a gym routine.

It took a year to lose 25 pounds.

Not exactly biggest loser material…

Regardless, now I started looking for foods low in sugars, saturated fats, and carb intake.

I kept to my commitments, joined a soccer league, and at 30 years old I live the life of a person 60 pounds less than I was…

Do I want a hero cookie??

Hell no,

I’m telling the world to stop being an “Always starting person.”

Two years later and I’m in great shape. Jody Lea is in great shape (she’s one of those lucky people. Eats bagels and cream cheese for breakfast. Has a nice big ass, tiny waist, great for an upstanding citizen like myself!)

Point is: I’m comfortable with who I am. It took two years, but it took four years to put the weight on and really desire change.

Doesn’t matter,

The past is behind me. Today I stand out of a crowd and blend into the crowd at the exact same time…

I made the road easy by practicing the age old advice,

“Take it one small step at a time…”

Sincerely

Devin Bisanz

When I was single and heart broken many people confided in me with their relationship problems.

Almost a year ago I met my girlfriend Jody Lea. We have a lot of energy, chemistry, and passion.

Now, the people who once confided in me with their relationship problems, try to convince me that they are in the best relationship with so much love, and I’m like, “Huh, what changed?”

Well, I guess there is only one answer to that… I changed…

Oh well,

But I can’t forget about one girl in particular. The poor girl used to get jealous when her boyfriend checked out other girls. When I confronted her about being Jealous she would say, “I’m not jealous. Why would I be jealous? He is just being inconsiderate, it has nothing to do with jealousy” And with that she would suppress the feeling.

Then the next time it happened she would suppress the feeling again. And again; until BAM, the fights would never end...

Why couldn’t she just admit to being jealous in the first place?

2: Overcoming Jealousy in a Relationship

I can understand my friend didn’t want to tell her boyfriend she was jealous. He probably would have lectured her for a half an hour about why she shouldn’t feel that way…

Girls have feelings, guys fill them full of reasons why they shouldn’t have those feelings…

Thing is,

We all feel things we don’t want to feel; sadness, anger, and hate. We can all relate to the feeling of jealousy so when it comes to my relationship…

I would be a hypocrite if I made my girl suppress her negative feelings. Instead I want us both to accept our feelings before the denial materializes.

Lets imagine being in a hail storm. Imagine the feeling as each chunk of hail smacks you. Now imagine those chunks of hail being the thousands of emotional signals you receive in any given day. And believe me; just like you know the hail is smacking you, your subconscious knows each time a positive, or negative emotion smacks it. Keeping that in mind would you stand still in a hail storm and let let it turn you into an Ice Statue?

You see, my friend denied being jealous and her subconscious had been triggered enough times that it turned her into an Ice Statue…

All she had to do was accept being jealous and she would have blown out of the ice!!

I told my friend she had to talk about her feelings right away. I told her that by accepting jealousy within herself, she would naturally feel better.

Did she listen??

No, because she didn’t want to feel jealous. She thought that if she admitted to being jealous, she was admitting to something she never wanted to be…

So what happened??

She is the person she doesn’t want to be, and she can’t accept it!!!

Well,

I don’t want to be like my friend, but how do I do that???

Simple, I have to recognize the negative feelings before they start building us into an Ice Statue…

My friend admitted jealousy to me, but not to herself…

But what if she admits feelings to herself and nothing happens?

Was Rome built in a day?

No, she has to continually admit to being jealous, and then ask herself, “Why do I feel jealous?” then she has to ask, “What would make me not feel jealous?”

And now she is going to be in a maze of confusion. She will probably find the reason for her jealousy is another emotion she will ultimately have to admit to; hence the reason for highly paid Therapists…

Now I have been to many Therapists and I will show a simple technique to release emotions before they become emotions,

But first…

3: Don’t be This

I hear men and women often say, “Relationships don’t work.” OR, “All men are assholes.”

One of my close friends drug through a relationship gutter for years; until she was absolutely exhausted. Her relationship finally turned into nasty breakup that left her devastated….

Then you know what my previously devastated friend did???

She got into a new relationship with the exact same type of person!!

She drug though the gutter again before making this stupid joke, “I guess history repeats itself,”

I said, “Really, because they only dropped one bomb in Hiroshima…”

4: Learn to Deal with Jealousy

Once we admit to a negative emotion, we get a positive result. Its not even possible to have a negative result if you’re being real…

This is why I love writing. I spend hours upon hours exploring myself. I spew my guts then read it over so I can “See myself” from an outside perspective.

The simple art of writing has helped me become consistently positive. Thanks to writing I can now feel, and admit a negative emotion as soon as the first sign appears.

Now for the simple technique to release jealousy (or ANY negative emotion),

When my girl flirts with another guy, or talks about the opposite sex I’ll say something like, “Well you just got that man killed,”and then we laugh at my joke…

There you have it… I just handled my jealousy before it even happened…

5: Repeat

I’m one of the lucky people who has had extreme emotional Peaks and Valleys…

September 21/2002, marked the night of my Motorcycle accident. That night while riding home I was the happiest I could ever feel. When I came too in the hospital many hours later, I was the weakest I could ever feel. From there I spent the next seven years spiralling out of control. I felt the worthlessness of pain, addiction, poverty, and heart break.

Thats four times I had to walk myself out of the worst place one could ever imagine being; but I did it… on my own.

Now I talk in terms of feelings and on occassion somebody will say to me, ”I know what my problem is Devin,”

I respond, “Perfect, then you know how to fix it,”

To which they’ll say, “If only it were that easy,”

To which I respond, “At one point it was…”

Then I watch my comment fly over their head…

Sincerley,

And just like Escorts, some Public Speakers sell themselves with class, some accept mediorcracy, and others sell themselves like trash, but like my grandma said, “That’s how the cookie crumble’s…” 3. Toastmasters is not going to get you paid I’ve heard Toastmasters say, “If you win an International Speaking award you are set for life!” Yes, Toastmasters is great for the resume, and an International Speaking Awards will boost the check book.

1. It is not Man’s biggest fear

Man’s biggest fear is rejection…

We can’t help but judge other people. We don’t want other people to judge us. We don’t want to judge ourselves.

Rejection…

A shy dude fears asking out a girl. An employee fears asking the boss for a raise. A Man fears speaking on stage.

Rejection…

So next time you hear, “Public Speaking is mans biggest fear,”

Say, “Actually, I believe Rejection is mans biggest fear, and if he can overcome his fear of rejection, Public Speaking is his biggest asset!”

2. Know what you are selling

It’s you!

Literally, Public Speakers are selling themselves like legalized escorts. And just like Escorts, some Public Speakers sell themselves with class, some accept mediorcracy, and others sell themselves like trash, but like my grandma said, “That’s how the cookie crumble’s…”

3. Toastmasters is not going to get you paid

I’ve heard Toastmasters say, “If you win an International Speaking award you are set for life!”

Yes, Toastmasters is great for the resume, and an International Speaking Awards will boost the check book. But, like my friend and highly paid motivational speaker Joe Roberts said, ”Toastmasters is like the first booster on a rocket launch,” he smiled, “It gets you off the ground but once the fuel is burned, you have to shed the wieght.”

The problem with the Toastmasters International “claim to fame” idea…

Each competition has a new set of judges; which is fine, except I’m not sure about the credentials of some of the judges.

Also,

Judging is based on a point system; 1 (being terrible) and up to 15 (being flawless)

What factor determines whether a person scored 12 on body language, or 13????

What about if a judge likes a speaker who stands still vs. using the stage? how do they score that??

I have watched a weak speaker beat out a confident speaker in competition, and I’m not saying that it is impossible to win an International speaking award (one day I will)

I’m saying that when you only have one crack at the speaking competition per year, and the judging criteria is so informal, don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Join a speakers association, talk to school’s, prison’s, The Chamber of Commerce, or whatever you have to do. Just don’t leave your fate in the hands of others…

4. Don’t do speeches based on a book you idolize

Want to see your audiences eyes glaze over? Do a book review about how that book changed your life…

As a member of the audience I don’t buy it…

The book did not help you see the light,

What helped you see the light was the series of events that led up to your desire to change; and furthermore, the series of actions you took to find answers.

Reading the book was just one action, and even though the book put into perspective values that you perceived to be true. As a Professional Public Speaker you have to go beyond what has already been done before.

Tell your story…

5. It is wrong if you think, “Those who teach, don’t do,”

Life is not like college. The teachers I look for are the people who have already done!

I plan to make Public speaking and Internet Marketing a long standing career. I believe in the theory, “Do what you preach,” and if you don’t do what you preach but somehow still managed to sell me; whatever, I’ll forget about you in a day, but I’ll remember your actions for life…

6. Always Record Your Speeches

Public Speaking is an art, and at first it was really embarrassing to see myself on tape. My arm often rested across my stomach, I had a twitch in my shoulder. I walked funny.

Now I stand straight, my arms are relaxed and flowing. I make sure to walk right. I would have never of been aware had I not forced myself to watch every speech, and listen to each message admitting mistakes..

I watch many budding speakers who don’t record any speeches, but here is a tip: The pro’s record their speeches, and so should you…

7. Don’t Ramble

Why is it that budding, and also highly paid Professional Public Speakers think EVERYTHING they say is important???

It’s not,

Don’t ramble is another reason why we should always record our speeches. And I know that people get attached to what they say and write, but trim the fat…

8. Talk with confidence

If you have something to say. SAY IT, and if it comes out all wrong…

who cares?!

If you talk with confidence, I (as an audience member) will either agree or disagree with what you are saying.

If you talk with no confidence, I (as a member of the audience) will feel sorry for you, but I’ll also make fun of you.

Wait…

Even if you talk with confidence I will probably heckle you. Behind your back of course…

God I love Public Speaking!

9. It’s not for everybody

What a myth,

Often people say to me, “I’m not like you Devin. I don’t want to talk to anybody when I’m in public,”

I say, “Fair enough, I don’t like to do dishes either, so I don’t, I have a dishwasher, but I’m willing to bet all my money that you are not free of human interaction. We have spouses, family, bosses, and some of us even have friends. Wouldn’t it be great if everybody thought about us… as we think about ourselves?”

You gotta step up to the plate sometime…

Your friends critiques should go like this:

“I think that (your name here if you like) is going to be really great at (career title here.) It’s something he/she has been excited about ever since he/she started (the reason you are going to be great goes here!)”

And if you think your friends want to sabotage your ideas…

Either they are right, or you got to get new friends!

Public Speaking Insight Number 10:

At the end of most every sales meeting the presenter will say something about the importance of making decisions. There will always be an urgent call to action; In fact, I was just at a sales presentation, and before closing the presenter put a quote on the screen,

“Using the power of decision gives you the capacity to get past any excuse to change any and every part of your life in an instant.” Tony Robbins,

“If you take action now,” the presenter smiled, and it seemed that everybody in the room was sunddenly able to make a decision.

They were all thinking they couldn’t let the moment slip after such a dream charged presentation.

I watched the “Jones” flow like a wave through the crowd. Even the hardest skeptics heard the call, “You cannot afford to miss the boat!”

Sorry people, I missed the boat, but I am happy to be able to make a decision without somebody elses help.

So what is the number 10 thing you should know about Public Speaking?

The Public Speakers who dot their I’s and cross their T’s get rich!!

Sincerely,

So I’m sitting on the can, taking a dump, reading the newspaper, when an add popped out at me,

“Invest into American Real Estate!”

The next line read, “Luxury condos in Orlando, Arizona, and Texas listed at under 30,000 dollars,”

30,000 dollar places?? I coughed out another shit! My 2 bedroom place in the suburbs of Vancouver is worth over 300,000 bucks. For golly sakes, I could buy one of those places outright, I beamed while tearing the page out of the paper, folding it up, and wiping my ass soon after.

I drove home, “Hey Jody Lea, check this out,” I hollered while slamming the door, “You know how I wanted to buy more property? Check it out. Talk about manifesting.”

“You’re so handsome,” she soothed and sex blasted through my brain like the mushroom cloud in the Herishyma bomb. How could a man not a lay out a woman who makes him feel so good about himself?

“Your so getting nailed,” I grinned, kicking my shoes off to the kitchen floor, “But seriously, we can buy places in the states for under 30,000 bucks. I’m going to a presentation tonight downtown, you want to come?”

Bingo, bango, and a few hours later…

Devin and Jody lea were sitting in a presentation about buying houses in the United States for pennies on the dollar.

The presentation made solid points

Investors will capitalize on the housing crash of the United States.

The United States wants investors from outside countries. No different than Canada really; I mean, if it wasn’t for the Persians and Asians moving to Vancouver, there is no way our blue collar economy could sustain a 750,000 dollar average house cost.

The presentation fuelled our dreams

Testimonials promoted check after check of people earning 20+ thousand dollars a deal.

The product was a 3 day seminar, and 26 DVD’s full of everything you need to know about investing into the American real estate meltdown.

You could literally start tonight!

Excitement stirred through the hundred listeners when they announced the 2,500 dollar original price was being slashed to 1,267 dollars.

“I have to show you this quote from Tony Robbins,” said Mr. Presenter as he clicked to change the powerpoint slide.

“Using the power of decision gives you the capacity to get past any excuse to change any and every part of your life in an instant.” Tony Robbins,

I literally watched the “Jones,” flow through the audience in waves.

“Now, who here thinks they deserve a little more money,” the presenter howled, “And that if taught right, who here tonight believes they could learn how to buy realestate in the US?”

Half the hundred hands shot up,

“I’ll tell you what we are going to do,” hyped the presenter, “For the first 18 people, and not one person more,” he paused, “We are slashing the price from 1,267 dollars to 267 dollars!”

One man got up and sprinted to the back table where four representatives were waiting to answer questions and fill out applications.

“Who else is with me,” yelled the presenter as he walked down the aisle shoeing the audience to the back desk.

With that motion people stumbled over one another using elbows to mash anybody in their way…

I wished I had a video camera!

I avoided the sales presentation impulse buy, but not because I am a sceptic,

I didn’t sign up because there is one thing all these opportunity driven presentations miss…

They forget to mention the amount of dedication and hard work that it takes to succeed,

BTW, if a majority of the people were turning over 20 thousand dollar checks after buying this product, do you think they would slash the price from 2,500 dollars?? that being said, do you think they would slash the price below 1,000 dollars?? Pretty doubtful, that would be like Ferrari suddenly knocking 80% off the price tag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, are everyday people turning over 20 thousand dollar checks in the US housing crash?

Yah, sure, why not,

But think about it… someone has gotten rich in every industry: nurses, maids, even a freaking Taco Vendor has made millions of dollars.

That tells me there is no such thing as a J.O.B.

There is such thing as those who take, and those who take what is given to them.

So next time you are faced with that one impulsive minute to decide on the fate of the rest of your life, ask yourself…

Why is it that I want to do this so badly??

How much time am I willing to commit, and how much money am I willing to risk??

Is this service or product in alignment with what I believe I am capable of doing??

The impulse decision is powerful (I bought a 15,000 dollar time share on sheer impulse! Oops) What did I learn? I learned how to say NO, and the more times I practice saying, “NO,” (I’m talking about life in general, friends, family, whatever,) the more times I say No, means the less times I say YES. The less times I say Yes equals more time to follow through on the dreams I am already working on!!!!

“Know your limit. Play within it,” Who ever thought the lottery company would give such fabulous advice!

Sincerely,

Devin
