I had a conversation with Tom Antion,
We were talking about Careers in Public Speaking when he said this, “When a speaker goes on stage many people sit in the audience and think, I could do that.”
“Well no you can’t,” Tom huffed, and I grinned.
When I sit in the audience and watch a speaker on stage, guess what goes through my head… I can do that!!!
When Tom says, “No you can’t,”
I think, watch me.
I can go up on stage, tell a story, a couple jokes, throw in some proper body language and BAM, I’m flying around the country in a private jet.
Or not,
Not yet anyways, A Career in Public Speaking may not be as simple as imagined.
I’m not saying its complicated either. You just have to take it one step at a time, and get started by joining a club like Toastmasters.
I’m sure there is a chapter of toastmasters in most every community. In my community you can join a club that caters to any schedule and speaking experience, so check it out, I’ll add a link.
I’ve been a member of Toastmasters for 9 months and have some obligations to step up to, like being the VP of Membership for my home club.
Toastmasters is where my Public Speaking Career begins, as I’m sure it does for many.
Plus,
The International Speaking Competition is a big notch in any professional speakers belt…
If your curious about a Career in Public Speaking, your first step should be joining toastmasters- a place where people are willing to listen to you learn…
Other than that, I’m going to figure out my next five moves to getting paid as a speaker!!!
